Benefits of Merino Wool
Moisture Wicking
Merino wool is the best fiber to regulate moisture. It does this by absorbing sweat from your skin and releasing it into the air. Whether you're hiking, running, biking, on the job, or just relaxing at home, our wool helps keep you dry and comfortable all day long.
Soft & Comfortable
Merino wool fibers are much finer than traditional wool, creating a luxuriously soft feel that won’t itch or irritate your skin. Comfortable enough for everyday wear and gentle enough for sensitive skin, it’s a natural choice for underwear, base layers and next-to-skin comfort.
Highly Breathable
Merino wool’s unique structure allows air to circulate freely, helping to regulate your body temperature in both hot and cold weather conditions. Whether you're layering up for winter or staying cool in summer, Merino keeps you comfortable by letting your skin breathe.
Anti-Microbial
Merino wool naturally resists odor-causing bacteria, keeping you fresher for longer. No lingering smells, even after extended wear. Perfect for travel, outdoor adventures, and everyday life.
Insulates When Wet
Merino wool can hold up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy against the skin. Unlike cotton or synthetic fabrics, it keeps insulating when damp, making it a smart choice for unpredictable weather and high-output activity.
Fire Resistant
Merino wool is naturally fire-resistant and self-extinguishing. It will not melt or stick to your skin like synthetic fabrics. A trusted option for first responders, campfire safety, or any high-heat environment.
UV Protection
Our Merino wool clothing helps protect you from the sun’s harmful rays, with different levels of UPF based on fabric weight:
-
Microweight (145 GSM): UPF 20
-
Lightweight (170 GSM): UPF 25
-
Midweight (245 GSM): UPF 50+
-
Heavyweight (400 GSM): UPF 50+
These natural UV-blocking properties make Merino wool ideal for long days or the beach or above treeline.
Renewable and Sustainable
Merino wool is a natural, biodegradable fiber with a low environmental footprint. Grown by Australian Merino sheep and shorn seasonally, it is a renewable material that supports responsible farming practices.

Benefits of Merino Wool
These lightweight, yet sturdy socks are a must have for all weather. We regularily get -20 wind chills in winter months where I live; wering a liner sock under my favorite woll socks traps a layer of warm air near the body. This makes all the dfference. The marino wool is breathable, and I wear a liner sock with a lighter wool sock in my motorcycle boots, even in summer as I often travel from the warm flats to the mountians in a single day - the temperature changes can be brutal. As these socks are thin - they also hand wash and air dry quickly while camping or hoteling for the night.
Heavy enough to be worn solo
These are good socks, a little lower than expected but stay up. Good value for wool, and you can wash and dry them in the machines.

These are thin which is good. They fit properly. Would buy again.
As a point of reference, these seem slightly thicker than the REI liner socks.

Just the right thickness for my every day boots and shoes.
Just the right thickness for my every day boots & shoes.
Bought several pairs of these to wear in a drysuit that has built in 'socks'. Needed socks with minimal extra cushioning that would be warm but not bulky otherwise my feet wouldn't fit into the external booties. They worked great and like my other Merino wool gear, they do not smell even after several days of whitewater kayaking in the drysuit.
David,
Thank you for the great review! We are very happy to hear that our Mountain Heritage Boot Liner socks gave you the extra cushion and warmth that you needed, while still allowing you to fit into the external booties of your drysuit. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback and for supporting our American made sock collection.

Holly,
We are happy to hear that you 'love' your Minus33 Mountain Heritage Socks. Thank you for the great review!
-Melinda W.
I’m addicted to Minus33! I’m so thankful I found this brand on Expert Voice. The socks are outstanding quality. Over the last few months I’ve used these in varying conditions while hiking, hunting, and camping. I was so impressed that I bought several more pairs for wear at work. They keep my feet fresh for 14hrs/day in a military boot in FL heat. In fact, I can wear the same pair for multiple days. I’ll never buy cotton socks again. Love them!
Michael,
Thank you for the 'outstanding' review. We are happy to hear the your enjoying your Minus33 socks.

Haven't opened them yet. they are holiday presents for my grandsons who will be experiencing their first NH winter.
