Benefits of Merino Wool
Moisture Wicking
Merino wool is the best fiber to regulate moisture. It does this by absorbing sweat from your skin and releasing it into the air. Whether you're hiking, running, biking, on the job, or just relaxing at home, our wool helps keep you dry and comfortable all day long.
Soft & Comfortable
Merino wool fibers are much finer than traditional wool, creating a luxuriously soft feel that won’t itch or irritate your skin. Comfortable enough for everyday wear and gentle enough for sensitive skin, it’s a natural choice for underwear, base layers and next-to-skin comfort.
Highly Breathable
Merino wool’s unique structure allows air to circulate freely, helping to regulate your body temperature in both hot and cold weather conditions. Whether you're layering up for winter or staying cool in summer, Merino keeps you comfortable by letting your skin breathe.
Anti-Microbial
Merino wool naturally resists odor-causing bacteria, keeping you fresher for longer. No lingering smells, even after extended wear. Perfect for travel, outdoor adventures, and everyday life.
Insulates When Wet
Merino wool can hold up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy against the skin. Unlike cotton or synthetic fabrics, it keeps insulating when damp, making it a smart choice for unpredictable weather and high-output activity.
Fire Resistant
Merino wool is naturally fire-resistant and self-extinguishing. It will not melt or stick to your skin like synthetic fabrics. A trusted option for first responders, campfire safety, or any high-heat environment.
UV Protection
Our Merino wool clothing helps protect you from the sun’s harmful rays, with different levels of UPF based on fabric weight:
-
Microweight (145 GSM): UPF 20
-
Lightweight (170 GSM): UPF 25
-
Midweight (245 GSM): UPF 50+
-
Heavyweight (400 GSM): UPF 50+
These natural UV-blocking properties make Merino wool ideal for long days or the beach or above treeline.
Renewable and Sustainable
Merino wool is a natural, biodegradable fiber with a low environmental footprint. Grown by Australian Merino sheep and shorn seasonally, it is a renewable material that supports responsible farming practices.

Excellent, will be buying more soon
I use these as liners under heavier merino socks and they make a big difference in maintaining toe warmth. It's January in Alaska, and I can stay outside in sub-zero significantly longer with these under the main socks than I can without them. These are now a daily staple of my winter wardrobe.
great for hiking in shorts, to keep the sun off your legs without having to use sunscreen
Great fit and warmth
Run a little small, tight, but that’s perfect for a liner weight sock that is the base layer in boots. Extremely comfortable and warm even in a cold deer stand.
Thanks
Fast shipping and the socks are awesome. They’re longer than I thought, and I’m a size 13 with pretty muscular calves. They go right up to the crease of my knee. They also stay up all day, which is most desirable. Very comfortable and very thin- thru dont make my feet sweat nor do thry smell at the end of the day.
I think I like this liner better than Darn Tough liner socks. It's a little early to tell. But I like the percent of merino wool on these. I would buy them again
I really like these socks. I’ve found it difficult to find knee high liner socks. The price is better than most and they feel and look if quality. I bought these for motorcycling. Will buy again.

I’ve put these sox thru the wringer over the last month and they’ve held up and really impressed. 2 days of lift access mountain biking in Vermont where they served as all weather (rain) gear and shin/calf protection from sharp flat pedal pins (small tear in sox, no tear in calf). 10 days of cross country mtn biking in NH and in Massachusetts including inclement weather, mud and many trips thru the laundry. Bonus: knee highs in solid light color help me find and remove ticks before they bite me. Add to that 2 days of hiking and a 6 day backcountry canoe camping tour including 12 miles of portage. These were a critical part my fast/light backcountry travel kit allowing me to travel, paddle and fish in sun and in heavy rain, including lining my boat thru the shallows and getting in and out of the water in combination with sport sandals to allow for relatively warm and comfortable amphibious and efficient cross country adventure travel in the Adirondacks. These sox have outstanding dry and wet weather performance. They stay warm when wet, can be worn over and over without accumulating odor, they fit my feet and legs better than other high end merino brands, cost less, show no signs of wear and are made locally from natural materials. 5 Star.

Quality socks breathe well calf is too tight so strong impossible to stretch top for better fit
I recently returned from a hunting trip in Alaska. The minus 33 liners worked amazingly. My feet stayed warm, dry, and odor free.
I highly recommend minus 33 products.

I needed a pair of compression sock that weren't synthetic.(because allergic to synthetics) Already being in love with Minus 33 products found these a great substitute for "traditional" compression socks. Thanks Minus 33

I'm a winter climber who trains in New Hampshire. I enjoy bitter cold, alpine ice climbs. I bought three pairs of the OTC Liners to see if they would work well ice climbing. These are the nicest, thinnest, over the calf socks I've ever had. I've used and worn out many pairs of socks from other reputable brands. These are not the best for my application. In winter mountaineering, thin socks with modern boots keep many people's feet warmer and happier than thicker socks. These aren't super thin, but are thin enough that you feel everything inside rigid climbing boots. If you're a modern alpinist, looking for a thin, lightweight, OTC sock for use with high tech mountaineering boots, try Minus 33, but go for the next cushion level up to have a little more comfort around the heel and toes. I've used their base layers on 2000 mile thru hikes, to high altitude mountaineering expeditions, it's quality and I'll be purchasing more of the socks. I've encouraged many to try Minus 33, and everyone has had a positive experience. Great merino options. The competitors may have a generous guarantee for life, but I prefer a higher performing sock on committed routes.
Tim,

Far better than those “lifetime guarantee “ socks.
These are slightly heavier than most liners and I love it.
Truly an all purpose sock. I will be buying more soon
Keeps you warm in the cold and cool in the heat…

Needed socks to hunt in 90+ degree weather. The mountain heritage micro weigh over the calf liner accommodated my need perfectly. The socks are my go-to socks for hunting deer in Southern California August heat.
Jesse,
We are so happy that the Mountain Heritage Over the Calf Wool Socks - Liner works for Southern California hunting. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review!
-Katie P.
Amazingly comfortable, great fit!
I've used this liner sock in very cold weather so far (-20F) along with other insulating layers like a full cushion wool sock and vapor barrier socks. 8-9 hour days controlling moisture as best as I can. After those long days with varying elevation gains of 2k -4k ft I can say my feet were quite dry and feeling good. Definitely would recommend as part of an overall insulation system in cold weather, can't wait to try them in warmer weather with a lighter wool sock or by themselves.
Benjamin,
Sounds as though you feet are staying comfy and warm while wearing your Minus33 Mountain Heritage Socks. Thank you for the fabulous review!
