Benefits of Merino Wool
Moisture Wicking
Merino wool is the best fiber to regulate moisture. It does this by absorbing sweat from your skin and releasing it into the air. Whether you're hiking, running, biking, on the job, or just relaxing at home, our wool helps keep you dry and comfortable all day long.
Soft & Comfortable
Merino wool fibers are much finer than traditional wool, creating a luxuriously soft feel that won’t itch or irritate your skin. Comfortable enough for everyday wear and gentle enough for sensitive skin, it’s a natural choice for underwear, base layers and next-to-skin comfort.
Highly Breathable
Merino wool’s unique structure allows air to circulate freely, helping to regulate your body temperature in both hot and cold weather conditions. Whether you're layering up for winter or staying cool in summer, Merino keeps you comfortable by letting your skin breathe.
Anti-Microbial
Merino wool naturally resists odor-causing bacteria, keeping you fresher for longer. No lingering smells, even after extended wear. Perfect for travel, outdoor adventures, and everyday life.
Insulates When Wet
Merino wool can hold up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy against the skin. Unlike cotton or synthetic fabrics, it keeps insulating when damp, making it a smart choice for unpredictable weather and high-output activity.
Fire Resistant
Merino wool is naturally fire-resistant and self-extinguishing. It will not melt or stick to your skin like synthetic fabrics. A trusted option for first responders, campfire safety, or any high-heat environment.
UV Protection
Our Merino wool clothing helps protect you from the sun’s harmful rays, with different levels of UPF based on fabric weight:
-
Microweight (145 GSM): UPF 20
-
Lightweight (170 GSM): UPF 25
-
Midweight (245 GSM): UPF 50+
-
Heavyweight (400 GSM): UPF 50+
These natural UV-blocking properties make Merino wool ideal for long days or the beach or above treeline.
Renewable and Sustainable
Merino wool is a natural, biodegradable fiber with a low environmental footprint. Grown by Australian Merino sheep and shorn seasonally, it is a renewable material that supports responsible farming practices.

Great color
Great warmth
Great socks
Beautiful shade of RED!! And, these Minus 33 Merino wool socks are SO warm and the perfect length!!
As an outdoor professional, I feel socks are an extremely important piece of your kit. I was very "brand loyal" to one of the major brands for almost twenty years... I wont knock that company because they indeed make great wool items. But... Minus 33's merino items blow the competitors out of the water, hands down! So needless to say Minus 33 is now my goto for Merino wool.
Minus 33 keep doing what you're doing! Only thing I would ask is expand your made in the USA line, because the socks are amazing!
Hi Dave. Thank you so much for your kind words and for choosing our Lightweight - Over the Calf Wool Socks Mountain Heritage! We are thrilled to hear that our socks have become your go-to for merino wool.
Dave, right now, about 90% of our socks ar manufactured here in NH. We have a few styles in stock made overseas, but looking forward they will all be USA made.
Again, thank you for taking the time to write a review. We here at Minus33 appreciate your support.
Happy adventuring!
Kindly
~Sue

I love merino wool socks, and wear them all year. Every few winters I purchase new socks because the old ones wear out. Last month I bought the Patriot in the All-Season ski socks, and promptly bought four more pairs - two in teal, two in red (the best colors available). Like them so much, I called my brother in Ohio who delivers for UPS in all kinds of weather. He had some merino wool over-the-calf socks from another brand, which he uses all winter. "I have something better to recommend," I said. Your socks are SO much better, SO warm, and stay up with no problems. Thank you for making such a great sock.
Hoosier Pat,

Best socks I have ever owned for hunting. Over the calf keeps them in place. No more falling inside my boots. Minus 33 has great customer service who backs the products they sell.

Well made, comfortable and warm. If they are durable over the season will buy again.
Thank you for the wonderful review!

Best socks ever owned. The cushioning doesn't restrict the foot and the stitching is intangible. I wear the over-calf style and work as a chef, and even on hot/humid days my feet are more dry and cool than in your average sock.
Thomas,
We are happy to hear that your Minus33 Mountain Heritage Over The Calf Wool Socks are the 'best socks you have ever owned.' We strive for high quality and function in all of our products here at Minus33. Thank you, for supporting the Mountain Heritage collection that is made right here in Ashland, New Hampshire.

I used to spend a lot of money on "toe warmers" , they are about a dollar per package. My investment in these awesome socks will pay for themselves in less than 1 winter season.
I also appreciate the ability to buy a product made in the USA!
Andrew,
We are glad to hear that you are staying 'warm and comfortable' while wearing your Minus33 Mountain Heritage Socks. Thank you for the wonderful review!
-Melinda W.
I was gifted a pair of these socks for Christmas, and I have to say, they are the most comfortable, warm, and stylish sock I have ever owned.
Brandon,
We are pleased to hear that you are enjoying your Mountain Heritage Socks. Thank you for the great review!
-Melinda W.
I have been wearing both the low and over the calf mid-cushion socks for hiking, running, every day use and garage workouts for 2 months. They stay in place, don't get too hot and provide great cushion. Remains to be seen how they hold up over the long run but I am very happy at this point!
MK,
We are pleased to hear that you are enjoying your Minus33 Socks. It is important to be comfortable while working out. Thank you for the great review!
-Melinda W.
I was truly impressed that these socks were made not only in USA but locally made. I bought them for Christmas presents for all my kids because my kids like wool socks to wear in the Winter as they do a lot of outdoor activities. Received them very promptly and was very impressed with the quality. I read the reviews and they said they held up much better than the popular and more expensive other brand, so here’s hoping because if they get a thumbs up from my kids I will certainly be back to buy more. My friend told me about Minus 33 and nothing but great things to say about the products and the company.
Alicia,
Thank you for the great review. We are pleased to hear that you and your kids are enjoying your Mountain Heritage Socks. Keep an eye out for more Minus33 items made locally in the future.
-Melinda W.
They handle the Elk Guiding season very well! I will be ordering more very soon.
Robert,
Thank you for the great review! We are glad to hear our socks served you well through Elk season.
-Melinda W.
Great socks
I use tall socks when hiking, helps with my circulation. Both pairs of socks have been used many times this winter and spring, and they perform excellent. They stay up, dry great, keep my feet warm when wet, and are most comfortable!! NO blisters, which for me is excellent!! Thank you, I will be buying more. As a plus, local to NH.
Very satisfied with socks so far. Will not get worn regularly until our next hunting season begins, here in MS it is already in the 70’s and low 80’s.
the Full Length socks were a bit thicker than my typical thin ski sock so I was a bit suspect at first. However, my ski boots are a few years older than recommended for use and have lost some of the insulating volume of new boots. A pair of -33 and I have warm toes again and not shelling out $500+ for new boots this season PERFECT!
Great fitting warm socks!
