Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Why Merino Wool?

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

wonderful woolie

This expedition weight top will get lots of use. Not only does it fit well and feel comfortable, but it's well made and makes me feel well dressed. It looks good enough to wear almost any place I go. The pockets are big enough for gloves and an apple or orange and there is even a tab to hang it up in a locker. I'm hoping it will come in more colors in the future.

Thank you for leaving us a review Margaret! We're glad you are loving it so far!

Nice jacket

I love this zip up. I’ve used 2-4 days a week, walking and working out outside especially since the pandemic. I would definitely recommend. It fits well and I love the length.

The only thing we love more than someone enjoying our products is someone finding ways to connect with and better enjoy the outdoors! Thanks for taking the time to leave us your thoughts!

High quality, looks good

I'm very happy with this Wilderness full zip. It is the weight I wanted and looks great on. At 5'9, 140#, either a medium or large would work simce there is some stretch. I got the large in case I want to layer several things under it for winter hiking. The large doesn't look sloppy but if I were only putting a thin layer or 2 underneath, I'd get a medium. The torso and sleeve length are perfect. The blue is very pretty. I'm very happy with my purchase and if it wasn't so pricey, I'd get another.

Donna,

We're so glad to hear that you're satisfied with your Wilderness Expedition Women's Wool Full Zip! We pride ourselves on providing high-quality products and we're happy to know that it has met your expectations. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the fit and sizing, this will definitely be helpful for other customers. We appreciate your support and hope to see you again soon!

Unhappy with appearance

When I tried on my black wilderness full zip cardigan, I was surprised to see that it attracted white dust particles, right out of the air! The garment was covered in white specks that I removed with a lint roller. When I shook it out, the white particles came back! Also, I am 5'3" and 130lbs, and the medium is too tight with one or two thermal layers underneath. Other than these issues, it's a very nice garment and I would not have returned it.

Jean,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our Expedition - Women's Wool Full Zip Wilderness cardigan. We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with the white dust particles. The nature of wool fabric is that lint and things do like to stick to it and it is always good to have a lint roller handy when not wearing black wool as a base layer

We also appreciate your feedback on the sizing of the medium. We understand how important it is to have a comfortable fit and we will take this into consideration for future designs.

We are glad to hear that you still find the wilderness full zip to be a nice garment. If you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Best,

Very versatile jacket-love it!

My husband has the earlier version of this jacket, must be 10 years old- he uses it most of the year and it still looks brand new! I’ve only worn it layered under a shell so far this winter- fits great, comfortable and warm! I am excited to try it out for the other seasons as well for hiking... a great investment!! Highly recommend this jacket!
