Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Learn About Layering

Why Merino Wool?

two people sitting next to a river wearing merino wool

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

Quality or wrong care instructions

I'm waiting to receive my 3rd men's bottom but my first expedition weight , in the past years i bought the lightweight and the medium , perfect quality and comfort beyond expectations however after washing them small issues start to appear to grow later making them last only a single winter season , now I'm still a believer so i have gone to the heavy weight hoping it will stand better, and I'm thinking this time i will wash it in a laundry bag inside the washing machine maybe i will get better results , will be updating you .

Mohammed,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our Expedition - Katmai Men's Bottom. We apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced with the previous products you have purchased. We take quality very seriously and are constantly working to improve our products.

We appreciate your loyalty and hope that the heavy weight expedition bottom will meet your expectations. Washing it in a laundry bag is a great idea and we hope it will help with any potential issues. Please keep us updated and do not hesitate to reach out to our customer service team if you have any further concerns.

Thank you for choosing our product and we hope you have a great winter season.

So far so go

I've only had 1 chance to try these and so far so good.
Wore these under a paid of insulated overalls while out in MN at 20F (feels like 15F). I was toasty.
The plan for these is Churchill Canada next Nov where it will be much colder and we'll see just how good they are or aren't. I've previously worn UA Cold Gear. So far, I'm very happy with these and thinking the UA stuff may not get any more use. I've got my eyes on a few more Minus 33 items.
I'm 5'6", 158lbs, muscular build and I ordered the medium size. They fit great.

Warm, Pricey, Do Not Seem Durable Updated

I wanted to update my original review as I was not aware of the included warranty, this for sure changes my opinion of these. As mentioned in my original review, they are warm and the fact that Minuss33 allows you to submit a warranty claim is very reasonable. Worth the price, I ordered a second pair! Thank you! I would definitely recommend buying them!

Dawn,

Thank you for taking the time to update your review. We are glad to hear that you have found our warranty to be reasonable and that you have ordered a second pair. We always strive to provide high-quality products that are worth the price. Thank you for your recommendation, it means a lot to us. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best,

Warm, Pricey, Do Not Seem Durable

I bought these to keep my husband warm while he runs routes early in the morning. He’s says they keep him warm which is great but he’s only worn them 3 times and already they have come apart on the inner seam. They are too expensive to be coming apart so soon. I will have to see them to keep the cold out. Overall I am a little disappointed; $140 for base layer pants is a bit high in cost and although they are warm, a hole is not acceptable so soon.

Hi Dawn,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm sorry to hear your husband's pants are showing premature signs of wear and tear. Please feel free to submit a warranty claim here if you would like the chance to receive a replacement: https://www.minus33.com/pages/warranty
Our customer service team will reach out to you in response to your warranty claim, if you choose to file one.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
Thank you!
